Best Cat Food in Pakistan (2026): Prices and How to Choose

Best Cat Food in Pakistan (2026): Prices and How to Choose
General information only — not veterinary advice. For health concerns, please consult a veterinarian.

Walk into any pet shop in Karachi and you will find dozens of imported cat food bags — from Turkey, Europe and Brazil — at prices from around Rs 1,200 to over Rs 5,000. This guide explains what actually matters on the label, and lists good imported options at every budget from what we stock at Happy Tails, with prices.

Prices are Happy Tails prices at the time of writing (November 2026) and can change — the product page always shows the current price and stock.

How to choose a cat food

1. Match the life stage

Kittens (up to about 12 months) need a kitten food — more protein, fat and calories for growth. Adult cats need an adult formula, and cats that have been neutered or spayed usually do better on a sterilised food, which has fewer calories and helps prevent weight gain.

2. Read the protein and fat numbers

Many brands print them in the name. Homie Pro 36/16, for example, means 36% protein and 16% fat. For most adult cats, a dry food with roughly 30–36% protein is a good range; kitten foods are higher (Homie Pro 38/18 for kittens and mothers). Very cheap foods often use more cereal and less meat.

3. Look for a named meat first

Ingredients are listed by weight. “Chicken”, “salmon” or “lamb” near the top of the list is a good sign; vague terms such as “meat and animal derivatives” at the top usually mean a lower-grade recipe.

4. Think about special needs

  • Sterilised / indoor cats: lower calories, often with urinary support.
  • Urinary care: for cats (especially males) prone to bladder problems — follow your vet’s advice.
  • Hairball control: extra fibre helps long-haired cats such as Persians pass swallowed hair.
  • Hypoallergenic / sensitive: limited ingredients for cats with itchy skin or a sensitive stomach.

5. Work out the monthly cost, not the bag price

An average 4 kg adult cat eats about 50–65 g of dry food a day — roughly 1.5–2 kg a month. A bigger bag usually costs less per kilo. See our cat feeding chart for amounts by weight.

Affordable imported cat food (around Rs 1,250–1,750 per kg)

Imported everyday options that keep the monthly bill lower — roughly Rs 2,000–3,000 a month for an average cat.

Mid-range premium cat food (around Rs 1,750–2,700 per kg)

The sweet spot for most cat owners: better meat content and more choice of recipes, at roughly Rs 3,000–4,500 a month.

Top-tier cat food (European recipes)

For owners who want the highest-quality ingredients, or cats with sensitive stomachs and skin.

Best food for sterilised cats and urinary care

If your cat has already had a urinary problem, ask your vet which food to use — some cats need a prescription diet.

Best food for long-haired cats (hairballs)

Josera Catelux Adult Cat Food 2kg – Hairball Control (Rs 5,500) is made for cats that swallow a lot of fur, such as Persians. Regular brushing helps just as much — see our Persian cat care guide.

Should you add wet food?

Yes, if you can. Wet food adds water to your cat’s diet — useful in Karachi’s heat and for cats that drink little. Many owners give dry food as the main meal plus one pouch a day. Imported pouches and tins such as Faenbei (from Rs 300), Felicia (Rs 350) and Petline tins (Rs 350) are in our wet cat food range. When you add a pouch, give a little less dry food.

Changing to a new food

Switch over 7–10 days: start with about a quarter new food mixed with the old, and increase it every couple of days. A sudden change is a common cause of vomiting and loose stools.

Frequently asked questions

Which cat food is best in Pakistan?

There is no single best food for every cat. For most adult cats, a mid-range food such as Homie Pro, Petline Super Premium or Carnaval Premium gives good quality for the price. Josera, Felicia and ProChoice are excellent if your budget allows or your cat has a sensitive stomach.

How much does cat food cost per month in Pakistan?

For an average 4 kg cat eating about 1.5–2 kg a month: around Rs 2,000–3,000 with an affordable imported food, Rs 3,000–4,500 with a mid-range food and Rs 4,000–5,500 with a top-tier European food.

Can I feed my cat homemade food (rice and chicken)?

Plain boiled chicken is fine as an occasional extra, but rice and chicken alone is not a complete diet — cats need taurine, vitamins and minerals that a complete cat food provides. Avoid onion, garlic, bones and spicy or salty food.

Is dry food enough on its own?

A complete dry food is a full diet, as long as fresh water is always available. Adding some wet food helps with hydration.
